With {\it your help} the food collective will be serving vegan (dairy- and meat-free) meals during the gathering: \vskip\parskip {\parskip=0pt \tabskip=2em \halign{ \hfil#& % day name \hfil#& % lunch time \hfil#\cr % dinner time & Brunch& Dinner\cr Thursday& (none)& 5 -- 8 pm\cr Friday& 10 -- noon& 6 -- 8:30 pm\cr Saturday& 10 -- noon& 6 -- 8:30 pm\cr Sunday& \multispan2(\circleA\ picnic in Dolores Park)\cr Monday& 10 -- noon& 6 -- 8:30 pm\cr Tuesday& 10 -- noon& 6 -- 8:30 pm\cr } } \vskip\parskip Due to the large scale of this year's gathering and the small size of the food collective (3 to 10 people), our efforts to provide nourishment will not be successful without the generous involvement¨ of you and your friends, the Without Borders community. The following shifts are open for volunteers: \halign{ \tabskip=2em \hfil#& % work #\hfil\cr % time preparation&7am -- 10am \& 3pm -- 6pm\cr cooking&8am -- 10am \& 4pm -- 6pm\cr dishwashing/cleanup&11am -- 1pm \& 7:30pm -- 9:30pm\cr } We also need vehicle transport for pick-ups and getting meals from the kitchen to the serving site. If you can work any of these shifts, it would be helpful to us if you sign up at the registration¨ center at Horace Mann School. The kitchen trailer will be located at Franklin Square Park, approachable from 17th Street and Mariposa. Meals will be served in the Horace Mann cafeteria. We won't be serving meals on Sunday. Instead, there will be a potluck picnic in Dolores Park starting at 11 am and going until dusk. They will also need prep, cooking and cleanup help. Bulk foods and donations drop-off point: The registration center at Horace Mann School (the main site). And remember, help us pay for the cost of the gathering by donating generously! \vskip\parskip \centerline{\bf A bit of background\dots} When Seeds of Peace offered us the use of their kitchen trailer and help cooking, we happily accepted. S.O.P. is a mobile collective which has been providing logistical support (food, water, portable¨ toilets, systems and organizing) for peace walks, demos, and actions since they formed out of the Great Peace March in 1987. They have participated in such events as The Florida Peace Pilgrimage, the¨ American-Soviet Walk, and Reclaim The Test-Site actions, providing them with the skills and experience necessary for organizing large scale feedings. Currently S.O.P. is working out of Berkeley but is¨ searching for a more rural home-base in the NorthWest. Food Not Bombs has been serving free meals several times a week since last summer in SF. Both food servers and people eating were arrested regularly for two months before the city stopped hassling FNB¨ for not getting permits. Lately they've been operating around the clock at the homeless encampment at the Civic Centre Plaza which police are trying to bust. \vskip\parskip \centerline{\bf Where Else to Eat\dots} There are many inexpensive and moderately priced places to eat in SF, especially in the Mission. (Note: if you're a vegetarian, expect to find lard at least in your tortilla, if not your refried¨ beans, except for at Chapalita's. You might want to order whole beans.) Most listed below serve vegan and vegetarian food. \vskip\parskip { \parindent=10pt \obeylines \parskip=0pt \def\coll{$\star$} \def\miss{$\circ$} \item{\miss}(Means: located in the Mission) \item{\coll}(Means: collectively run) \item{} (Also note that the numbered {\bf Streets} are nowhere near the numbered {\bf Avenues}) \vskip6pt \centerline{\bf Cheapo} \vskip6pt \item{\miss}Pancho Villa Taqueria\leaderfill 3071 16th St btwn Mission/Valencia \item{\miss}Taqueria Alten\~a\leaderfill 2588 Mission btwn 21st/22nd Sts \item{\miss}Chapalita\leaderfill 16th St btwn Valencia \& Guererro {\it (Your only chance for a truly vegetarian burrito in the Mission.
