Subject: women & computers Date: Tue, 30 Nov 1999 22:40:07 -0500 From: Eve Andree Laramee To: Tom Jennings (by way of wander@earthlink.net (Eve Andree Laramee)) More on Women and computers. When I was in Austin I made a point of meeting Sandy Stone (Allucquere Roseanne Stone). I'm sure you know who she is, and are familiar with her book, "The War of Desire and Technology at the Close of the Mechanical Age". If not, let me know and I'll tell you more about her & put you in touch. She came to see my show (teaches at U of Tex) & we got a chance to hang out at a party. I asked her if she knew you and she said no, but she is a great fan of FidoNet. Anyways, she was one of the original people at the Atari Lab, and I think also at early Apple. I can find her email for you if you like, also I think her domain name is sandystone.com. She's pretty easy to track down, but I'd be happy to make the introduction if you like. Also, do you know Maggie (Margaret) Morse who is a theoretician of media and cyber cultures? She is based at UC Santa Cruz. I can also give you her email if you like. Her new book is called "Virtualities". Also, Donna Haraway, who heads the History of Consciousness program at UC Santa Cruz would also be good for you to brain-pick. Maybe you already know this stuff. Sorry if it is redundant. If not, I'll continue to brainstorm on cool women. Have you contacted anyone at MIT? When I was doing my research there, I found that people in the labs were very willing to talk, be interviewed, etc. Do you know if Grace Hopper is still alive? If so, she'd be interesting to interview, by cracky! See you, Eve
