The cheap laser pen died a decade ago, and I finally got around to replacing it. Blue (420 nM) laser diodes are still a bit edgy. I bought two (suspect used) diodes from AliExpress for seven bucks. Worked out how to plumb them in, made a new holder, got the optical path more or less aligned and done.
As per my usual MO, I take a crapload of photos as illustration and documentation. Future "how did I solve X in that project...?" questions, repair, etc. Also you never know what in the future is interesting, or no longer available or forgotten.
